The Change of Season
Fall, My Favorite Time of Year
Labor Day brings with it a time of vacations and RV’s; camping in the mountains, and quiet city streets. People pack up their gear around Colorado Springs and head out for the open country for their recreational plans, and enjoy one last weekend of summer while enjoying nature. The pleasures of hot weather around the higher elevations brings great joy to many people in the area, and Colorado Springs looks much emptier during the long holiday weekend.
When the weekend is over, the lots at storage places fill up with those same RV’s; stored until next summer. The weather has already begun to change. Instead of the mid-eighties we have been experiencing for high temperatures, we have had a day with a high of seventy-two or so. Today we are expected to see a high temperature of sixty-eight. Colorado Springs could see another day or so of hot weather, but from here on out it will probably get cooler and cooler.
The trees know it; the ones outside the condominium are starting to turn colors on top. A little yellow at the moment; I can’t wait for more color. There are clouds in the sky this morning, and although my knees are telling me that the cooler temperatures are maybe not such a good thing, the rest of me just loves the Fall season. As time progresses, the wind will pick up a bit, and I will be able to wear a jacket again; this means I will have pockets to put things in.
October is Wendy’s favorite month out of the year; she is a big fan of Halloween. She greatly enjoys seeing the kids in their costumes, and all of the goodies that go along with the holiday. Decorating is her specialty where Halloween is concerned, and the deck on the back is sure to be filled with various ghouls and goblins; perhaps a spider web with a spider in the middle.
As for me, I appreciate the quiet that always seems to come with the Fall season here in Colorado Springs. People slow down a bit, and grow somewhat calmer. The stores in the area begin displaying various decorations associated with coming holidays, and the sales begin. Nature takes a deep breath and prepares for the downtime ahead.
We can use the oven again, and hot tasty foods will begin to emerge from the kitchen. Soups and stews, baked goods and hot dinners shared between Wendy and I are something we look forward to again. Cups of Earl Grey and orange tea in front of the computer, and popcorn while watching movies are things I anticipate greatly.
Ahh; Fall season – you have been missed…
Tom.
